Maharashtra Governor <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/time-has-come-for-india-to-produce-its-own-jeff-bezos-mark-zuckerberg-maharashtra-governor-bais-23325286" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Ramesh Bais</a> took part in the parade organised to mark Armed Forces Veterans Day on Sunday, reported news agency ANI.
Over 500 veterans, including gallantry awardees from all three services of the Indian Armed Forces, marched at the Marine Drive, reported ANI.
The parade is aimed at creating awareness amongst the citizens about the glorious contribution of the veterans in service to the nation, reported ANI.
During the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maratha-quota-ncp-delegation-meets-maharashtra-governor-on-reservation-demand-23317143" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Armed Forces Veterans Day Parade</a>, a Navy veteran said that the parade can be an inspiration for youth to join the armed forces.
"I started this procedure, which was approved by the headquarters. This is going to be an annual feature where the parade will be led by senior veterans. The youth see how the veterans are being respected, and this can be an inspiration for the youth to join the armed forces," he added, reported ANI.
He further said that the veterans want only three things, PMR - pension, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-guv-suggests-changing-school-timings-so-that-children-get-enough-sleep-23323706" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">medical assistance</a>, and respect, reported ANI.
"The veterans want only three things, PMR- pension, medical assistance, and respect. If the veterans are respected, then their josh will increase in the defence sector," he said, reported ANI.
The parade generated a lot of enthusiasm amongst the citizens of Mumbai, who watched over 500 veterans, including those who fought the nation's wars, participate in it with great zeal and patriotic fervour, reported ANI.
Armed Forces Veterans Day is celebrated every year by hosting events in honour of ex-servicemen and their families.
Earlier, last month, Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais had said that it's time for India to produce its own Jeff Bezos and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maratha-quota-stir-maharashtra-cm-shinde-meets-governor-ramesh-bais-at-raj-bhavan-23317344" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mark Zuckerberg</a>. He urged the students to come up with innovative ideas to make the country a developed nation by 2047, reported PTI.
The governor was speaking at the convocation ceremony of a private management institute at Mira Road, on the outskirts of Mumbai.
Referring to the 'Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth' vision, which was recently launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, Ramesh Bais said that the students graduating this year will be at the peak of their professional careers in 2047, reported PTI.
"After the Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombings, Japan rose from the ashes to become a leading manufacturing nation. South Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries have also taken transformative leaps, changing the course of their development history. Today is the time for each of us to play our part in the journey of transformation," said the Maharashtra governor, according to the PTI report.
