Jishnu Dev Varma, a member of the Manikya royal dynasty of Tripura and former Governor of Telangana, was on Tuesday sworn in as the 22nd governor of Maharashtra.

The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, at Darbar Hall of Maharashtra Lok Bhavan in Mumbai. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar congratulated the governor by presenting bouquets. Soon after, the Indian Navy accorded him a ceremonial guard of honour.
Following the election of Governor CP Radhakrishnan as Vice-President of India on September 12, 2025, the additional charge of Maharashtra Governor had been given to Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat. Earlier, Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal read out the warrant of appointment issued by President Droupadi Murmu in both Hindi and English.
The ceremony began with the National Song Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem and the state song. It concluded with Vande Mataram and the National Anthem played by the police band.
Before his appointment in Maharashtra, Jishnu Dev Varma served as Governor of Telangana from July 31, 2024. From 2018 to 2023, he was the deputy chief minister of Tripura, handling the portfolios of finance, rural development, and power.
Dev Varma has a keen interest in modern art, painting, and sculpture. He was the convener of the Tripura chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and coordinated the organisation’s activities in Northeast India. He is also a noted writer and poet.
Former Ladakh LG Kavinder Gupta assumes charge as Himachal Pradesh Governor
Former Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta was sworn in as Governor of Himachal Pradesh in a simple yet impressive ceremony held at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday.
Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, administered the oath of office and secrecy.
Present on the occasion were Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh and his wife Mitra, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and Lady Governor Bindu Gupta. Gupta took the oath in Hindi.
For the first time at Lok Bhavan, the ceremony began with the singing of Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem, and concluded with Vande Mataram once again. The Governor was also presented with a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
Earlier, Chief Secretary Shri Sanjay Gupta read out the warrant of appointment issued by the President of India. Secretary to the Governor C.P. Verma then obtained Gupta’s signature on the charge certificate.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Speaker of the HP Vidhan Sabha Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Sunil Sharma, MLAs, Chairman and members of various commissions, boards and corporations, Vice-Chancellors of universities, senior civil and police officers, and other prominent personalities.
