The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has announced the launch of the second edition of its Coastal Cyclathon in 2026, aimed at strengthening coastal security awareness across India, an official statement said.
The nationwide initiative carries the theme “Vande Mataram” and focuses on directly involving grassroots stakeholders, particularly local communities living along India’s coastal peninsula.
The cyclathon will begin on January 28, 2026 with a virtual flag-off by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai.
"Two CISF cycling teams will cover a total distance of 6,553 kilometres over a period of more than 25 days," the official statement said.

Officials said the cyclathon reflects CISF’s commitment to public participation in coastal security and national integration.
Two teams, one destination
Both teams will start simultaneously from opposite ends of the country. One team will begin its journey from Lakhpat Fort in Gujarat on the western coast, while the second team will start from Bakkhali in West Bengal on the eastern coast. The two teams are scheduled to reach Kochi in Kerala by 22 February.
Strong participation, increased women representation
A total of 160 CISF personnel will participate in the cyclathon, including 65 women.
Officials said this marks a significant rise in women’s participation, with a 40 per cent increase compared to the previous edition.
Community engagement across coastal villages
During the journey, the teams will halt at 50 coastal villages and interact with local residents to spread awareness about coastal security and national safety.
CISF officials said the cyclists have been selected based on their ability to communicate in the regional languages spoken in the areas they will visit.
