Over 50,000 voters decided to go for the &lsquo;None of the Above&rsquo; (NOTA) option that was introduced by the Election Commission after the SC judgement last year, in the 26 constituencies of Mumbai suburbs.

According to the figures made available by the poll body, Chandivli constituency registered the highest NOTA votes, with 4,653, followed by 3,894 in Chembur and 3,266 in Versova constituency. On an average, every constituency had around 1,900 people who used this provision.
Earlier, the Versova constituency was expected to witness the maximum number of NOTA votes, after the nomination form of Shiv Sena candidate Rajul Patel was rejected and party members were asking voters to press the NOTA button. BJP candidate Dr Bharti Lavekar registered an unexpected win in the constituency, defeating four-time sitting MLA Baldev Khosa from the Congress.
In Chandivli, Congress MLA Arif (Naseem) Khan won the assembly seat for the fourth time, defeating Shiv Sena candidate Santosh Singh. Chembur witnessed Shiv Sena&rsquo;s Prakash Vaikunth Phaterpekar emerge as the winner, beating former minister and former Social Welfare Minister and Congress candidate Chandrakant Handore.
