In a detailed update shared by the public health department, Maharashtra reported a total of 16 new COVID-19 cases on July 2, 2025. As of July 2, 2025, Maharashtra has reported a total of 2,533 COVID-19 cases from January 2025. As per the press release by the Public Health Department, authorities have conducted 31,238 COVID-19 tests during this period as part of its ongoing surveillance and response strategy.
Amid the easing situation, 2,415 patients have successfully recovered, taking the recovery rate to 95.34 per cent. The declining COVID-19 infected cases and increasing recovery rate portray a strong indicator of the effectiveness of current treatment and isolation protocols.
Health officials in the release have also confirmed that all active patients are experiencing only mild symptoms, and there are no severe cases under intensive care at this time.
On July 2, 2025, 16 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported across various districts. With Pune Municipal Corporation (4) recording the highest number of cases, Mumbai recorded 3, Thane Municipal Corporation recorded 1, Pune 2, PCMC 1, Nagpur Municipal Corporation 4 and Chandrapur with just 1 COVID-19 case on 2 July 2025.
With these additions, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the state currently stands at 80. While the numbers remain manageable, authorities continue to emphasise the importance of vigilance, particularly during the monsoon season.
However, Mumbai remains the city with the highest number of cases in the state this year, having recorded 998 COVID-19 cases since January. A month-wise breakdown reveals that a total of 986 cases were recorded in May and June combined. The spike in May and June is attributed to increased travel and social gatherings, although the numbers have immensely declined since the start of July.
Unfortunately, 38 COVID-19-related deaths have occurred in the state since January 2025. Out of these, 37 patients had pre-existing comorbidities, and 1 patient was reported to have had another serious illness. The state government continues to monitor vulnerable populations closely, particularly those with underlying health conditions. The health department urges citizens to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour, especially in public spaces, and recommends mask usage and hand hygiene in crowded areas.
