A delegation of Shiv Sena (UBT) workers on Wednesday met the Thane Municipal Commissioner to complain about a drive that the corporation carried out against hawkers and street vendors in the city's Padwal Nagar, the PTI reported on Wednesday.

According to the news agency, the Shiv Sena (UBT) alleged that the roadside sellers' belongings, including utensils and gas stoves, were destroyed during the drive using JCBs on Tuesday late evening.

The delegation submitted a memorandum to Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Abhijit Bangar and alleged that no notice was given to the hawkers and street vendors before the drive was conducted in the Wagle Estate area, as per the PTI.

Former corporator Sanjay Gadigaonkar said they have demanded compensation for the affected hawkers. He said the civic chief also condemned the incident and promised to appoint a deputy municipal commissioner-level official to probe the matter, the news agency reported.

If the civic body fails to take any action against the erring officials, Shiv Sena (UBT) will start an agitation, said Gadigaonkar, the PTI reported.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra legislative assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar on Wednesday said that he has rescheduled the next hearing on the disqualification petitions filed against each other by two rival Shiv Sena factions to an earlier date, and it will now be held on Thursday instead of Friday, reported the PTI.

According to the PTI, Rahul Narwekar last month began hearing the disqualification petitions filed by the two rival Shiv Sena factions led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his predecessor Uddhav Thackeray. The first hearing was held on September 14.

Talking to reporters in Mumbai, the assembly speaker said, "The (next) hearing on the disqualification pleas was scheduled to take place on Friday. But since I have to attend the G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit (P20) in Delhi on that day, I have advanced the schedule of the hearing. It will now be held on Thursday instead of Friday," as per the PTI.

"I could have fixed a later date for the hearing, but I did not because I did not want to delay the hearing any further. I want to take a decision at the earliest over the matter," Rahul Narwekar said, the PTI reported.
