Maharashtra state approves Rs 37cr for Dr Ambedkar Chair at LSE

The Maharashtra cabinet has approved over Rs 37 crore to establish a Dr BR Ambedkar Chair at the London School of Economics. The initiative aims to promote Ambedkar’s ideas on social justice, democracy, and economic equality globally, while also supporting doctoral research and interdisciplinary studies across key academic fields

A chair in the name of Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, will be established at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), with the Maharashtra cabinet approving a one-time grant of more than Rs 37 crore.
The chair will also administer doctoral scholarships in the name of Ambedkar. The objective is to project Ambedkar’s work and ideas on social justice, constitutional democracy, economic equality and human rights to the international stage, and to create a world-class research centre on these themes. The chair will promote interdisciplinary research on topics such as constitution and democracy, social equality, economic democracy and redistribution policies, labour and social rights, public finance, and inclusive governance.
