The long-awaited Mumbai Metro Line-10 (green line) project, connecting Gaimukh and Shivaji Chowk, has picked up significant pace. Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Tuesday announced that the tender process will begin by December 15. The transport minister shared the update during a review meeting held at the MMRDA headquarters in Mumbai.

The meeting was attended by Metropolitan Additional Commissioner Ashwin Kumar Mudgal, Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Mira-Bhayander Municipal Commissioner Radha Binod Sharma, and several other senior officials.

Fully elevated line to cost Rs 8,000 crore

The upcoming corridor, which will span around 9.718 km and be entirely elevated, will be build at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore. Once operational, the line is expected to transform connectivity for the rapidly growing Mira-Bhayander region.

As per information received from the ministry of transport, a total of five stations have been proposed on this line: Gaimukh Reti Bandar, Chena Gaon, Varsava, Kashimira, and Miragaon. The transport ministry further asserted that around 4.66 lakh passengers will travel on this line daily by 2031.

The depot for this line is proposed at Mogarpada (ML-4 Depot). Moreover, interchange facilities will be available with Line-4A at Gaimukh station and Line-9 at Miragaon, which focuses on making travel more convenient and hassle-free.

The ministry further asserted that the process of obtaining forest permits, CRZ, mangrove, wildlife protection department permits and environmentally sensitive area permits required for the project is underway.

Moreover, the general consultant has also prepared the tender documents for the construction of the metro and 60-metre-wide road, and the process is likely to start soon.

Sarnaik said that once the Metro Line-10 project is completed, the commute from Thane to South Mumbai will become faster, modern, and environmentally friendly, marking a new chapter in Mumbai’s travel ecosystem.
