The Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre on Sunday issued an orange alert for Raigad and the ghats of Pune and Satara, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in these areas.
A yellow alert has been issued for several districts, including Mumbai city and its suburbs, Thane, Palghar, Nashik ghat, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur ghat, Buldhana, Akola, Washim, Yavatmal, Nagpur, Gondia, Wardha, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, suggesting residents remain cautious.
Meanwhile, no districts are under a red alert, and the remaining districts fall under the green alert category, indicating normal weather conditions.
Due to ongoing heavy rainfall, an orange alert has been issued for Raigad, Pune ghat, and Satara ghat areas for the next 24 hours. Rising water levels in the Bagh river in Gadchiroli and the Kundalika river in Raigad have prompted district authorities to remain on high alert.
Controlled discharge has begun from Khadakwasla and Pavana dams in Pune district, with warnings issued for citizens. In Parbhani, 20 people from Hatgaon Pathri were relocated as heavy water flow submerged a bridge, halting local transport.
Meanwhile, a boat capsized off the Uran coast in Raigad; five were rescued while three remain missing. Landslide warnings have been issued in Mahabaleshwar due to continuous downpours, and local roads have been closed as a precaution. Both NDRF and SDRF teams have been put on standby for emergency response.
According to the India Meteorological Department's Regional Centre in Colaba, Mumbai, temperatures across the Konkan, Goa and Gujarat regions remained near normal on Sunday. Mumbai's Santacruz has experienced rain, with 17.7 mm recorded in the last 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for potential heavy rainfall impacts in the coming days. Localised flooding is expected in low-lying and urban areas, which may lead to flash floods and disruption of essential services such as road, rail, air, and ferry transport.
There is also a possibility of uprooting weak trees and the collapse of poorly maintained structures. Municipal services like water and electricity may be interrupted.
Coastal districts of Konkan could witness squally weather and rough sea conditions, while some river catchments may face the risk of riverine flooding. Vulnerable regions may experience landslides, mudslides, and rock falls. In addition, strong winds could damage plantations, horticulture, and standing crops. Kutcha houses may suffer minor damage, and there is also a chance of cloud-to-ground lightning during thunderstorms.
