A 32-year-old woman, accused of theft, who had escaped from the custody of MIDC Police Station, Andheri, has been traced and arrested by the police from Sambhajinagar.

According to the police, the accused, Divya Vasant Kale alias Muskan Pawar, 32, a resident of Lasur in Sambhajinagar district (Aurangabad), had been caught red-handed by locals while allegedly stealing a mobile phone from a house in the MIDC area. She was handed over to the police on Thursday.

However, while in the Women’s Anmaldar Cell at MIDC Police Station, she managed to escape from custody along with her two children. A woman constable was on duty but when her attention was elsewhere Kale slipped out of the room and fled.

The police said Kale had been involved in multiple thefts in recent months, where she would allegedly roam around residential localities under the pretext of begging, and steal mobile phones and valuables from accessible houses.

Following her escape, an MIDC Police team tracked her down to her native place in Aurangabad, where she was apprehended, and brought back to Mumbai,” said an MIDC Police officer.
