Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis on Friday directed state officials to reduce the number of permissions required for setting up new industries and accelerate approval timelines, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s position as India’s leading investment destination, news agency PTI reported.
While chairing a meeting of the state’s dedicated 'Ease of Doing Business' war room, CM Fadnavis emphasised the need to develop India’s best model for industrial setup and make Maharashtra a top-tier industrial hub.
He also urged the urban development department to build an AI-driven online system for granting building permissions, reported PTI.
“Once an application is filed with the required documents, the automated system should process and grant approvals without manual intervention, saving valuable time for entrepreneurs,” the CM stated.
He also proposed a single-window mechanism, allowing businesses to secure all necessary approvals through a unified application process, rather than navigating multiple departments.
CM Fadnavis further suggested that green-category industries be exempted from obtaining multiple permissions for the initial years of operation. Renewals could be made mandatory after a specific period, ensuring a balanced approach to environmental compliance and business ease.
The CM stressed the need for better coordination between district administrations and state departments to speed up the disposal of industrial applications, reported PTI.
“Unnecessary permissions lead to project delays and deter investors. Cutting red tape will unlock growth and job creation,” he noted.
Fadnavis reiterated that these reforms are vital to attracting greater investments and fast-tracking Maharashtra’s journey toward becoming a USD 1 trillion economy.
“Departments must implement these reforms seriously. Entrepreneurs should feel confident that Maharashtra offers the fastest clearances in the country,” he added.
Maharashtra to play leading role in green steel manufacturing: CM Fadnavis
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said the state is poised to take a leading role in the production of green steel, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainable industrial growth under the Green Steel Mission.
Speaking at the inauguration of AIIFA Steelex 2025, a major steel industry conclave held in Goregaon, suburban Mumbai, Fadnavis emphasised Maharashtra’s commitment to decarbonising the steel sector and promoting renewable energy.
“Maharashtra is committed to sustainability. By 2030, 58 per cent of the state's energy mix will come from renewables,” the chief minister said, reported news agency PTI.
He added that by 2026, 16,000 MW of solar energy will be supplied to farmers, significantly reducing subsidies and helping lower industrial power tariffs over the next five years.
Fadnavis also highlighted Gadchiroli’s transformation, stating that the region, once known for Naxalite activity, is on its way to becoming India’s new steel city, thanks to community support and Rs 80,000 crore in proposed investments in the steel sector.
He also announced a major afforestation drive, targeting 5 crore tree plantations in Gadchiroli, with 40 lakh trees already planted.
"We will build a new ecosystem for steel manufacturing that protects land, water, and forests," he said.
Fadnavis reiterated Maharashtra’s leadership in green hydrogen, ammonia, gas value chains, and battery storage technologies.
