The seeds of the fury unleashed Tuesday by Abhishek Digambar Vichare had been unwittingly sown nearly three years ago. In 2010, Abhishek met Priya Shinde at a tutorial in Ghatkopar. By the end of the year, the two 21-year-olds had grown closer and soon began a romantic relationship.

“They were having an affair since the beginning of 2011 and kept meeting in this neighbourhood,” said Inspector Rajkumar Kothmire from Ghatkopar police station. The couple informed their parents, who asked them to finish their education before thinking about marriage. “But after a while, Abhishek started acting jealous, and would cast aspersions at me and abuse me in public.
