Despite the recent adoption of a Maratha quota Bill in the Maharashtra Assembly, Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil remains resolute in his hunger strike, demanding immediate action from the government.
Patil insisted on the implementation of the 'Sage Soyare' ordinance notification within the next two days, failing which, he said, Maratha community vows to escalate protests across the state, commencing from February 24.

At the forefront of the protests advocating for Maratha reservation in government jobs and education, Patil expressed dissatisfaction with the recent quota Bill, asserting that it falls short of addressing the community's demands. Specifically, Patil called for the declaration of the Maratha community as Kunbi and demanded reservations under the OBC quota.
In preparation for the forthcoming agitation, Patil outlined plans for a statewide 'Rasta Roko' (road blockade) campaign, emphasizing that all members of the Maratha community will participate, blockading national highways, state highways, and local roads in villages, if their demands are not met within the stipulated timeframe.
Highlighting the potential impact of the protests, Patil underscored the community's commitment to peaceful demonstrations but stressed the urgency of government compliance with their demands. He also announced intentions for a 'Chakka Jam' in all districts of the state on March 3, further intensifying pressure on authorities.
However, Patil cautioned fellow quota protesters to consider the ongoing board examinations and urged restraint in creating obstacles for students during their exams. He emphasized adherence to peaceful protest methods, advocating for road blockades between specific hours without resorting to vandalism.
Patil announced plans for senior citizens to join the protest through a hunger strike, effectively restricting access to MPs, MLAs, and ministers in Maratha villages until their demands are met.
Patil issued an ultimatum to the government, saying that all senior citizens would launch a hunger strike if the state government did not implement the 'Sage Soyare' Ordinance, adding that if anyone died during the protest then Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would be held responsible for it.
Since starting his hunger strike on February 10, Patil has maintained a steadfast stance, convening a meeting in his village to reinforce demands and issue a stern warning to the government regarding the impending agitation. (With inputs from agencies)
