A 30-year-old masseur was arrested yesterday for stealing money and a diamond earring worth R1.8 lakh from his client&rsquo;s daughter, who also happens to be the niece of Nagaland Governor P B Acharya. The case was registered with the Borivli police.
The victim, Aditi Vitthal Prabhu (30), is a resident of Shimpoli in Borivli (West). The accused, Ruday Naresh Sharma (30), is also from the same area.
According to the police, the accused would visit the victim&rsquo;s place twice a week to massage the victim&rsquo;s father Vitthal. During the sessions, he would look around for any valuables lying around the house, which could be easily pocketed.

On August 16, when Ruday visited Aditi&rsquo;s place, he spotted a couple of dollars and a diamond earring lying on the table. He patiently waited for the right moment to steal the valuables, and got away without anyone noticing the theft.
Playing it safe, he kept the stolen items at his friend&rsquo;s place to avoid suspicion, and did not attempt to sell it.
When Aditi realised that one of her diamond earrings was missing, she searched the house thoroughly, but was unable to find it. She then lodged a complaint with the Borivli police the same week.
She told the cops that she travelled to Nagaland frequently to meet her uncle and also relatives in other countries, which is why she had the foreign currency with her. Aditi said she had forgotten to keep the earring in the locker before she went for her trip, and had left it on the table.
Assistant Police Inspector G S Gharge from Borivli police station said, &ldquo;We interrogated many people after the incident took place, and later took in Sharma for questioning. During the interrogation, Sharma admitted to committing the crime and we were able to recover all the stolen valuables. The accused has been released on bail.&rdquo;
