The Maharashtra Government has appointed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) as the special planning authority for the Worli Dairy land, facilitating a revamp for the 6.4-hectare plot, located in the heart of the city.

The state’s urban development department, through a notification, declared the Worli Dairy land as a "notified area" under Section 40(1) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, and appointed MMRDA as the SPA.

MMRDA will also act as the project implementing agency and will prepare detailed planning proposals to transform the site into a hub for marine research, tourism, public exhibitions, and government offices.

Apart from these two projects, the urban development department has also appointed MMRDA as the SPA for the 58.52 hectares in 10 villages at Kharbhav (CT), Malodi, Paye, Paygaon, Khardi, Palivali, Phirangpada, Gane, and Brahmangaon in Bhiwandi taluka and Nagale village in Vasai. MMRDA plans to develop business park at the above-mentioned villages to create new employment opportunities.
