After a week-long heavy downpour, the average rainfall fell to 17.44 mm on Wednesday; while there has been 56.97 per cent rainfall so far, it is against 59.12 per cent received last year

After heavy rains throughout the week, Thursday provided some respite to Mumbaikars. The city saw an average of only 17.4 mm rainfall on Wednesday (from 8 am on Wednesday till 8 am on Thursday) and has seen 1,457.2 mm rain since the beginning of monsoon, which is 56.97 per cent of the annual average.
But it is short of the 59.12 per cent rainfall received last year. After the first 20 days of July went dry, the Indian Meteorological Department had predicted that the monsoon would pick up towards the end of the month.
