Mumbai: 2 die after motorcycle slams into railing of Lalbaug flyover

A Motorcyclist and pillion rider lost their lives after crashing into the railing of Lalbaug flyover. The police have filed a case against the rider, Rushikesh Salkar, 25, under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code. An eyewitness said the motorcyclist had been riding recklessly and overtaking motorists at the time of the incident. The deceased were residents of Sakinaka, and Salkar was a cinematographer and videographer by profession.

According to the FIR filed by the Kalachowkie police, the incident occurred around 2.30 am on Saturday. After the control room received a call, the nearest team was dispatched to the flyover. Upon arrival, officials found a Royal Enfield Himalayan on the flyover and Salkar stuck in the railing with an iron rod sticking out of his neck. The person who was riding pillion, Shailesh Said, 40, was lying a few hundred metres away from the motorcycle. He was immediately taken to JJ hospital, while Salkar was rescued and also transported to the hospital. “Both were declared dead on arrival by doctors,” reads the FIR.

The officials later found a mobile phone in one of their pockets and informed their families. According to officials, they were travelling towards south Mumbai and riding recklessly, causing their bike to skid nearly 40 metres. The accident was so severe that Salkar was thrown into the air and got entangled in the railing of the flyover while an iron rod pierced his neck. Both individuals succumbed to their injuries and blood loss.
