In Mumbai, a Government Railway Police (GRP) case has been filed against three individuals, including a woman after a Central Railway employee ended his life due to falling victim to an online "sextortion" scheme, the police reported on Wednesday.
According to a report in PTI, the trio has been charged with extortion and abetment of suicide under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the IT Act, two days after the 36-year-old railway employee ended his life by leaping in front of a moving train at Matunga in Central Mumbai, an official stated.

The woman and her accomplices had extorted Rs 2 lakh from the victim by threatening to share his explicit videos on social media unless he paid, the official added.
The victim, employed at the Matunga Railway Workshop, was discovered dead on railway tracks on Monday. During the inquiry, the police found a suicide note in his trousers in which he complained of harassment by a woman and two men. They had extorted money from him by blackmailing him, the report read.
One of the accused impersonated a 'Cyber Crime Branch' officer based in New Delhi and made phone calls to the railway employee, the official said.
According to the suicide note, the victim connected with a woman named Komal Sharma on Facebook. After chatting with him via video call, she claimed to have recorded explicit videos of him. She demanded money from him and threatened to share the clips on social media if he didn't comply, the official explained.
Sharma informed the victim that she would file a complaint against him with the Cyber Crime Branch in New Delhi and demanded money from him not to do so, he said.
One of the two male accused pretended to be a Cyber Crime Branch officer and identified himself as Prem Prakash, calling the railway employee to demand money. Meanwhile, the other accused, who posed as a YouTube official named Vikas Kumar, participated in the "sextortion" scheme, the official said.
The case against the trio was registered at the Dadar Railway Police Station, and further investigation is ongoing, the report added.
