A 30-year-old man was detained yesterday in Nalasopara for allegedly beating his 2 and a half-year-old daughter to death, ironically on Father&rsquo;s Day.
According to investigating officials, nothing is confirmed yet as the autopsy report is awaited, which will reveal if it was an accidental death.
The accused, Vikas Kishan Netke, claimed that his daughter was given medicine to stop her incessant coughing and he was trying to wake her up by patting. She however did not wake up.
Overdose The police are suspecting that this might be a case of overdose or some disease that the child was suffering from.
The neighbours however had a different tale to tell about the Netke household. They said that Netke had come home drunk in the afternoon and started beating up the kid.
His wife, who works as a domestic help was not present in home at the time of the incident. Their 5-year-old elder daughter was sleeping too.
They lodged a complaint against Netke after they saw him beating the toddler.
Police says &ldquo;We have registered an ADR (Accidental Death Report) and body has been sent for autopsy to JJ hospital,&rdquo; said sub-inspector Ranjeet Shirsaat, Vasai division PRO, adding that the body was sent to a Government hospital first. The police are also waiting to get the statement of his wife, which might determine if he was abusive.
