Mumbai air pollution: Air quality of city in moderate category; Shivaji Nagar's AQI 'poor'

Even as concerns over air quality persisted across major cities including Delhi, Mumbai found itself in the 'moderate' category with an Air Quality Index of 112, according to data from the SAMEER app at  9 am.

Even as concerns over air quality persisted across major cities including Delhi, Mumbai found itself in the 'moderate' category with an Air Quality Index of 112, according to data from the SAMEER app at  9 am. Several areas, across the city, as per the app by the Central Pollution Control Board reported satisfactory air quality. 


Powai, Colaba, Worli, Vile Parle, Andheri, Bhandup and Malad areas reported satisfactory air quality with AQI being below 100. Other areas were in the moderate category except one. Shivaji Nagar reported an AQI of 237 putting it in the 'poor' category. 


In comparison to Mumbai, Thane's air quality was relatively bad as it recorded an AQI of 141. Meanwhile, Navi Mumbai recorded an AQI of 134. Other areas in the city reported moderate AQI however Nerul node recorded satisfactory air with AQi at 92. 


According to IQAir, a Swiss company that specialises in air quality monitoring, Delhi was the most polluted city in the world last Monday. Lahore and Karachi in Pakistan came next to Delhi. While Mumbai and Kolkata were ranked fifth and sixth among the most polluted cities in the world.

Delhi however continues to grapple with alarming air quality as the Air Quality Index (AQI) stagnates at 310, categorising the city's air as 'very poor' according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR-India)

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, 401 and 450 severe and above 450 severe plus.
