A Dubai-based woman who had last month filed a rape and cheating complaint against a 35-year-old resident of Andheri East for mooching off Rs 80 lakh from her, aming promises of marriage, has now alleged that the accused&rsquo;s father has made life and slander threats.

While recording her statement on Wednesday, she told the magistrate that the father of Sameer Mehra called her up on her phone and threatened to have her vilified as a sex worker and killed if she failed to withdraw her complaint.
The woman had named Mehra&rsquo;s father, Sushil, in her FIR filed at the MIDC police station on March 18. mid-day had on April 7 blown the lid off Mehra&rsquo;s con. Besides the Dubai woman, he had allegedly befriended another rich, newly-divorced woman in South Africa on a social networking website, charmed her, asked her to marry him and mooched loads of money off her.
According to the complaint, Mehra befriended the woman, a divorcee, on a social networking website in 2010, saying he had recently divorced as well. The two struck a rapport. A few days later, Mehra reportedly asked her to marry him and convinced her to visit India to introduce her to his family. Looking forward to a fresh start, the woman visited Mumbai and stayed at a flat she owns in Kandivli.
The two soon grew closer and stayed in each other&rsquo;s homes. But the honey-tongued cheat took money from her, claiming that he needed to pay his divorce lawyer and better his business of automobile spare parts manufacturing. Over the course of six years, the love-struck woman allegedly gave him R80 lakh. After her repeated attempts to ensure that Mehra kept his promise of marriage failed, she approached the police.
During her ordeal, she had been warned by a woman in South Africa that Mehra had cheated her of Rs 7 lakh under the pretext of marriage. She also found out that Mehra was betrothed to another woman.
&ldquo;We had sent a team twice to arrest Mehra, but he was not at his house. We are on the lookout for him,&rdquo; said Sailesh Pasalwar, senior inspector of MIDC police station.
