A Community dog named Tatya, who had lived in a Bhandup West housing society for over a decade, was allegedly killed inside the premises on Friday morning. Shocked residents lodged an FIR against an unidentified person at the Bhandup police station. Police are now scanning CCTV footage to identify the accused.

The incident occurred at Dhiraj Dreams Society, behind Dreams Mall, Bhandup West. According to the complainant, resident Tarannum Shaikh, Tatya was well-loved and cared for by society members.

Residents said Tatya was discovered with severe injuries to his jaw and stomach. “Tatya was very friendly and never barked at anyone. On Friday morning, he was found injured inside the society garden. We rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead before admission. We immediately called the police and lodged an FIR,” said society member Suchitra Verma.

Shaikh, who fed Tatya daily, added: “At first, we thought he had been hit by a vehicle, but CCTV did not show anything in this regard. We believe he was attacked with a heavy object. The accused must be caught and given the strictest punishment for this cruelty.”

A police officer confirmed: “We have registered an FIR against an unknown person under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11(1)(i) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. CCTV footage is being reviewed to trace the accused.”
