An RTI has raised questions over the BMC action against illegal constructions, with data showing that only 13,211 demolitions were completed among 2,14,917 complaints registered on its online portal over 10 years.

The civic body's Real-time Encroachment Management System (RETMS), introduced on March 1, 2016, allows citizens to report unauthorised constructions. However, figures obtained under the RTI Act show that more than half the complaints were classified as duplicates, while demolition was completed in a small fraction of the total cases.
