<p>With an aim to curb the improper disposal of flower waste by traders in the Prabhadevi and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-it-is-crocodile-fears-at-dadar-swimming-pool-23312401" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Dadar</a> railway stations vicinity, the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/brihanmumbai+municipal+corporation-all" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation</a> has taken a significant step.</p>
<p>A waste collection and transport vehicle (compactor), has been stationed permanently in the Meenatai Thackeray Flower Market area to address this issue.</p>
<p>Moreover, a meeting was conducted on October 4, with traders and businessmen from the flower market to raise public awareness about 'Swachh Mumbai, Sundar Mumbai'.</p>
<p>BMC Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal, and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs), Sudhakar Shinde, have initiated a cleanliness drive in the Municipal Corporation area following a directive. The initiative has received a good response from the public at various locations. However, complaints continued regarding citizens disposing of garbage on the roads, including the dumping of flowers outside the Meenatai Thackeray Flower Market.</p>
<p>In order to solve the concerns, the BMC officials from the solid waste management (SWM) department of G North Division conducted a meeting with the traders and businessmen of the market.</p>
<p>The traders within the flower market continue to dispose of their waste on the roads, leading to unwarranted discontent among citizens.</p>
<p>To address this issue, the BMC has issued directives for residential complexes and wholesale waste generators (BWG) to manage their waste through self-decomposition. Similarly, flower market vendors are encouraged to decompose garbage on-site.</p>
<p>"The traders are mandated to maintain a 120-liter capacity dust bin in their shops and deposit waste in a designated municipal vehicle. Furthermore, efforts are being made to ensure that flower waste is given daily to an organization specializing in converting it into incense. The market Inspector of North Division urged traders to refrain from disposing of garbage in the municipal compactor and warned of future penal action for violations," stated the press statement by BMC.</p><p>
