Given the growing population and expanding needs of Mumbai, providing basic civic amenities, building infrastructure and implementing large projects is a major challenge faced by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on a daily basis. Recognizing this, the state's Mumbai Suburban District Guardian Minister, Aaditya Thackeray, had suggested a three-dimensional map of the city in digital format.
Following this, the BMC administration recently adopted the latest technology such as GIS, SAP, robots, drones and undertook 3D mapping of Worli – Thackeray's constituency. The G South ward is now the first administrative division in Mumbai to undertake 3D mapping of about 10 sq. km of Worli, and has also prepared its digital twin. With this, Mumbai has entered the list of international cities with 3D mapping.
