A group of boys indulging in a football game in the Gorai Creek on Sunday afternoon came across a rather odd sight, which led to an odder revelation. One of them found a wrapped skeleton in the bushes near the creek, at Sector 1.

It later emerged that the skeletal remains were one of several dumped in the area, because the cemetery nearby ran out of space to keep the remains.
The Borivli police have learnt that the skeleton was dumped in the creek due to the non-availability of space in a cemetery, which is situated around 200 metre away from the spot.
Due to lack of space, the cemetery authorities keep throwing skeletons in the sea and several other skeletons, wrapped in plastic, are lying in the sea at Gorai.
According to the police, the boys were playing football at Gorai Sector 2, opposite society number 172.
During the game, one of the players kicked the ball and it went inside the bushes near the sea. As he went to take the ball, he was shocked to see the skeleton, which was wrapped in a plastic bag. Parts of the bones were seen coming out of the bag.
After reaching the spot, Borivli cops opened the wrapping and found the skeleton, which had a belt and a coconut inside it. They initially thought it was an incident of black magic, but soon found out about the cemetery located close by. Later, they got to know that the cemetery had been dumping skeletal remains since it kept running out of space.
Skeletons keep floating Senior police inspector Gunaji Sawant said, &ldquo;During the investigation, we got to know that the skeleton was very old. Later, we found out that there is a cemetery near the spot, and many skeletons keep floating in the sea adjoining this cemetery.&rdquo;

He added, &ldquo;When we spoke to the people working at the cemetery, they revealed that since they did not have adequate space for the cemetery, whenever new bodies were buried, they have cleaned up the old graveyard. But they did not have place to keep these skeletons, due to which they wrapped them in the plastic bags and kept inside the cemetery. The remains would later float into the sea.&rdquo;
&ldquo;We have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and after necessary panchnama, parts of the skeleton have been sent to the forensic lab,&rdquo; Gunaji said.
