Mumbai's 53 rd cadaveric donation takes place at Mulund's Fortis Hospital

Mumbai witnessed its 53rd Cadaveric Donation at Fortis Hospital, Mulund when the family of a brain dead patient consented to donate his heart, liver and kidneys. This act of organ donation saved and enriched the life of a 28-year-old woman from Dombivli, who received one of the kidneys, a 41-year-old woman from Koparkhairane, who received the second lidney. The liver went to a 50-year-old man from Sangli at the hospital itself. A deserving waitlisted patient at a city hospital received the heart.
The donor, a 41-yr-old male driver, was declared brain dead at Fortis Hospital, Mulund yesterday. The patient sustained grave injuries causing intracranial bleed following a fall in his home before he was rushed to the hospital on 22nd November, 2016. The liver transplant surgery was conducted by Dr Rakesh Rai, Senior Consultant Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary & Transplant Surgery, along with Dr Pankaj Maheshwari, Senior Consultant kidney Transplant Surgery, Dr Ramesh Mahajan, Senior Consultant kidney Transplant Surgery, and Dr Haresh Dodheja, Senior Nephrologist and Kidney Transplant Physician from Fortis Hospital, Mulund.
