Thane: Stone-laden dumper crashes into divider, disrupts traffic on Eastern Express Highway

A Tata dumper truck carrying around 28 tonnes of stone crashed into a road divider on the MumbaiNashikbound Eastern Express Highway in Thane during the early hours of Monday causing a temporary traffic slowdownAccording to the Thane Municipal Corporations Disaster Management Cell the accident occurred at around 450 am on Monday opposite Jupiter Hospital in Thane WestAs per the officials the truck was travelling from Bhandup to Pune when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle causing it to ram into the divider While the impact was huge no injuries were reported in the incidentThe impact dislodged several cement blocks from the divider scattering debris across the roadway The collision also led to an oil spill from the truck posing a potential hazard to motorists which disrupted the traffic on the Eastern Express HighwayPolice personnel from Rabodi Police Station and officials from the Disaster Management Cell promptly reached the spot with a pickup vehicle A JCB machine was deployed to clear the fallen concrete blocks while soil was spread over the spilt oil to prevent accidents Furthermore a crane was later brought in to remove the damaged vehicle from the highwayTraffic disrupted for 45 minutesOfficials said the accident disrupted traffic on the MumbaiNashikbound lane for nearly 45 minutes with vehicles moving at a slow pace before normal traffic flow was restoredThe situation is now under control and no casualties or injuries have been reported Assistant Police Inspector Sandesh Gavand of Rabodi Police Station informed the Disaster Management Cell about the incidentOfficials said the accident disrupted traffic on the MumbaiNashikbound lane for nearly 45 minutes with vehicles moving at a slow pace before normal traffic flow was restoredThe situation is now under control and no casualties or injuries have been reported Assistant Police Inspector Sandesh Gavand of Rabodi Police Station informed the Disaster Management Cell about the incidentPedestrian injured in firing during clash between two groups in ThaneIn a separate incident a 34yearold pedestrian suffered injuries after being caught in the firing during a clash between two rival groups in Maharashtras Thane district police said on Thursday reported PTISeven persons including two juveniles have been detained in connection with the incident which occurred at around 11 pm on Wednesday at the Khadegolawali locality in Kalyan they said reported PTIA minor argument escalated into a clash between two groups during which a member from one side opened fire on the other an official from Kolsewadi police station saidA passerby identified as Rahul Varma suffered bullet injuries after being caught in the gunfire He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment the official said reported PTIAfter being alerted senior police officials rushed to the spot to bring the situation under controlThe exact reason behind the dispute between the two groups is yet to be ascertained the official saidFollowing the violence both sides lodged crosscomplaints with the police
