Final voter list will be out on January 5, 2022; BMC also submits draft ward boundaries to SEC

All claims and objections should be settled by Dec 20 this year, after which final voters’ list will be published
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) submitted the draft of ward boundaries for the upcoming civic elections in 2022 to the State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday. The civic body is also greasing up to facilitate voter registration as a brief revision of the voters’ list is set to take place in the coming months. Citizens who will be 18 years of age by January 1, 2022, will be able to register on www.nvsp.in and www.ceo.maharashtra.nic.in from November 1 to 30.
As part of its boundary exercise, BMC checked the physical status of buildings and slums and mapped them on the electoral maps. Now that the draft has been submitted, the SEC will publish it in the public domain or ask BMC to do the same to invite suggestions or objections by the citizens. After this, a lottery will be held for the 227 electoral wards to decide which ward is reserved and which one remains open. Meanwhile, leaders from the BJP have written to the authority to hold the suggestions and objections at the earliest saying the BMC has drafted the ward maps in a hurry under pressure from the ruling Shiv Sena.
