Encroached footpaths

The BMC asserts that 134 out of 200 footpaths have been cleared in the initial phase. But, a follow-up survey of these cleared footpaths has not been conducted. For instance, Mohammed Ali Road, after being cleared, was reoccupied by hawkers within a few days. Furthermore, Nakhuda Mohallah, near Pydhonie, has reportedly never been cleared. This area, a complete road rather than just a footpath, is entirely encroached upon by hawkers and shop owners on both sides, leaving no space for pedestrians or vehiclaes. The BMC’s claims appear to be temporary and unsustainable, largely due to a lack of cooperation from the police.

Endless road repair work

It is noted with concern, that road repair work or other underground repair work, carried out by the BMC and their contractors, takes unduly long, resulting in blocking off the area under repair. This is a great risk both to the commuters and also pedestrians, where they have to navigate the blockade. The BMC should give a definite time frame, within which the repair work has to be completed.  They just cannot block the roads for an indefinite period. This holds true of the entire city.
