On Monday, Congress leaders met Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. According to party insiders, Congress has staked a claim to the Leader of Opposition (LoP) post in the Legislative Council after Ambadas Danev’s (Shiv Sena-UBT) term ended on August 29.

Congress leader and Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Satej Patil is said to be emerging as the frontrunner for the post. “Congress wants the UBT camp to support its candidature for the LoP post in the state Legislative Council,” said one of the leaders on condition of anonymity.

At present, Congress has eight members in the Legislative Council, while Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena has six. Given these numbers, sources indicate that Congress has staked its claim to the post on behalf of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
