The Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday apprehended a couple for causing the death of a 26-year-old man, who fell off a train near Sion railway station and was run over by another train last week.

According to the police, the incident took place on Sunday and they traced down the accused couple—Avinash Mane, 31, and his 30-year-old wife—to their residence in Dharavi with the help of CCTV camera footage.  Mane and his wife had boarded the local train at Sion, cops said. During questioning, the accused said that they had a fight with Devrao Rathod on the train after he grabbed his wife’s shoulder, they added.

The wife warned him once, but he continued to misbehave with her, the couple told the GRP, according to sources.

“In a fit of rage, the couple beat up the victim, as he had tried to touch her inappropriately,” said a police officer. During the fight, Rathod fell down and came under another running train, the cop added.

He was brought dead to hospital, said sources. The Dadar GRP filed an FIR under Sections 304 (death by negligence) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC on Tuesday.
