Active cases of Covid-19 have gone up by 70 per cent in Mumbai in the last 14 days. Though cases have increased in the last two weeks, hospitalisation rates haven’t risen—as of now, only two patients are on ventilators.
As per data made available by the BMC health department, on April 15, there were 346 active cases in the city. On April 29, the cases reached up to 589. Till April 29, only 27 patients were admitted to hospitals. While two patients are on ventilators and in critical condition, the other 25 patients have mild to moderate symptoms.

Out of 589 active patients, 84 per cent patients are asymptomatic. Speaking with mid-day, Dr Balkrishna Adsul, dean of Seven Hills Hospital, said, “At present, we have only seven patients in our hospital, out of which three are in the isolation block and the other four are in ICU for the last one month. They are negative, but have other comorbidities. Though there is a slight increase in the number of new patients, there is no severity.”
Dr Om Shrivastav, infectious disease expert and Covid task force member, said, “Right now there is nothing to worry about. People should wear a mask and maintain self-hygiene.”
