In yet another assault on a minor, a five-year-old from Jogeshwari was raped and left to fend for herself in the Aarey Colony jungle. The perpetrator has not been identified and is still at large.

Around 8 pm on July 5, the young girl&rsquo;s grandmother had asked her to buy paan from a nearby shop. When she didn&rsquo;t return home, her parents called up the police control room and alerted officials about their missing daughter.
&ldquo;We launched a search party and found her in the middle of the jungle around 7.30 the next morning. Her clothes were missing and her body bore injury marks,&rdquo; said an inspector from Meghwadi police station. The survivor was taken to the Jogeshwari Trauma centre and later shifted to KEM hospital in Parel.
A doctor from KEM said that the little girl had sustained injuries on her private parts and she had to undergo a surgery on July 6, the day she was admitted.
&ldquo;When she was admitted, she was visibly traumatised and was crying a lot. She is now in the paediatrics ward and her condition is stable. She will be discharged shortly,&rdquo; said the doctor. Sources from the hospital said the girl is being guarded by a police officer.
A case has been registered with the Meghwadi police station under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (rape) and 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code. &ldquo;We have also filed a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, 2012.
The man is yet to be identified,&rdquo; said the inspector, adding that efforts to find the girl&rsquo;s clothes, which could give clues about the rapist, have yielded no results.
