77-year-old run over by tempo near Vashi, dies

A 77-year-old man died in a hit and run incident at Sion-Panvel Highway at Vashi in the wee hours of Monday. The deceased was identified as Madhukar Sitaram Koli, a resident of Trombay-Koliwada. According to the primary investigation, Koli has come to a private hospital in Vashi for some personal work. The police arrested the driver, identified as Ishwar Solanke (29) the same night.
The incident occurred at around 9.30 am, Koli, a retired employee of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) was trying to cross the highway. "He was hit by a tempo truck while crossing the highway, but the tempo didn't stop after the accident and went towards Panvel. Motorists immediately rushed Koli to NMMC Hospital, Vashi where he was declared dead on arrival by doctors," said an officer from Vashi Police station.
