Unidentified persons broke into a jewellery shop at Goregaon on Saturday morning and decamped with 8 kg of gold. The incident occurred at Shri Mayur Jewellers, which is situated outside the railway station in Goregaon West.

According to the police officials, it was a meticulously planned robbery. Balsingh Rajput, deputy commissioner of police of zone 11 said: &ldquo;Vishal Soni, the owner of Mayur Jewellers, used to keep the keys of his shop at the nearby Vinayak Saree Centre. On Saturday at around 8.30 am, some unknown people broke into the saree shop and stole the keys. Later, they used these keys to open the locks of the jewellery shop and decamped with ornaments and the mortgaged gold kept in the store&rsquo;s locker.&rdquo;
According to the police Soni, reached his shop at around 10 am on Saturday, and like every day he went to the the neighbouring saree shop to get the keys. However, since the keys were missing, he went back home and got a duplicate set.
The, on opening the main gate, he smelled foul play and found the lockers empty. Soni immediately informed the police. As per Soni&rsquo;s statement there were gold ornaments weighing around 8 kg in the locker. Police have recorded the statement of Sunil Sukla, the son of the owner of Vinayak Saree Centre.
Sukla, who lives in an apartment on the floor above his shop. Apparently, he had gone upstairs to take a nap at around 8.30am and when he came down again at around 9.40 am, he found the door of his shop open. However, he hadn&rsquo;t realised the gravity of the matter then.
Rajput added, &ldquo;We have registered a case of housebreaking and theft. We are taking help of the CCTV footage from the area to nab the culprit.&rdquo;
