The Sion police arrested four thieves on Wednesday for stealing mobile phones in BEST buses and selling them online. Posing as customers, the cops recently called them to Dadar, and nabbed two of the accused, following which, the role of the other two accused was revealed during investigations and they were nabbed as well.

According to the police, the accused Deepak Shahu (20), Nityanand Gupta (21), Kisan Jaiswal (20) and Anish Shaikh (21) are residents of Parel. They are all hawkers of mobile accessories. After their arrest, Sion police also recovered five mobile phones from their houses.
Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Gaikwad from Sion police station said, &ldquo;A case of mobile theft was registered on July 8 after a woman&rsquo;s phone was stolen from her purse near Sion junction. After 10 days, we checked on OLX.com and the phone was displayed for sale. Later, we called her and confirmed if it was the same. Following this, we tried contacting the number displayed for the mobile phone but&nbsp;it remained unreachable for few days.&rdquo;
Later the cops checked the call data records of two numbers displayed on the website, and then, posing as customers, contacted the sellers and called them to Dadar station. &ldquo;The accused would constantly put up stolen mobiles for sale, but for every upload they used a different name so that the buyer didn&rsquo;t have any doubts,&rdquo; added Gaikwad.
On Wednesday, the cops nabbed Gupta and Shaikh when they had come to sell the phone, while the other two accused were arrested later from their respective residences.
&ldquo;After the arrest, the four accused have confessed to stealing phones since four months and have also admitted that they sold several cell phones via OLX.com. We will try to recover the other cell phones sold by them,&rdquo; said Gaikwad.
The accused have been booked under Sections 379 (theft) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intension) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced in court on Friday and have been remanded in judicial custody.
