A man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Sessions court on Friday, for raping his mother. The case, which had been going on for a year, was heard by special women’s court judge A S Shende.

The man was sentenced under sections 376 (rape) to life imprisonment and 506 (criminal intimidation) for a year, and charged a fine of R500, under the Indian Penal Code. There were six witnesses in the case, including the survivor and her husband, examined by public prosecutor Kalpana Hire. The man is a history-sheeter.
