A group of thieves were so determined to steal anything, that they did just that when they did not find money or valuables in a house they targeted in Nalasopara East last Friday. While they did find two cellphones, they stole cosmetics and even a packet of beedis. The only item of any value they stole was a pair of gold earrings.

The police have lodged a case and are trying to get some leads on the suspects who were captured in a CCTV installed in the neighbourhood. The incident occurred in a house in Dongarpada area near the Mahanagar Corporation office. It belongs to 30-year-old Farzana Khan, who stays with her 80-year-old father and son. Khan is a social worker and property consultant.

"I woke up at midnight to go to the toilet and everything was fine. But when I woke up again around 5.15 am, I found my cellphone missing. My father's mobile phone was also missing. My purse with its contents, including expensive cosmetics, was stolen. A pair of my mother's gold earrings was in it," Khan said, adding that since demonetisation, she had stopped keeping cash in the house and used her debit and credit cards.

While the cards and other important documents are also missing, her Aadhaar and PAN cards were found thrown on the road. "I tried to open the main door, but it was locked from outside. I asked my neighbour for help. He opened the door," added Khan. She then lodged a complaint at the Walive police station. "The three accused have been captured on the CCTV installed outside a workshop near the victim's residence. We are looking for them with the help of it," said an officer.
