On January 30, the Titwala police receive a call from a security guard, who informs them about a body found in a gunny bag. "We reach the spot and find a head and legless body in a gunny bag. Two rings on the left hand of the deceased are the only evidence," says Pradeep Kasbe, senior PI, Titwala police station.

After registering a murder case, cops look for cases of missing persons in the area. On February 2, they find out about one Ravindra Singha, 32, who has been missing for five to six days. They question his wife Sushma, but she claims Ravindra has been at his parents' home in Mulund. But his parents deny it.

"We further question Ravindra's boss, who says he had not come to work for over five days," adds Kasbe. On Tuesday, February 5, Ravindra's boss sends a picture of his to the cops, where he's seen wearing two silver rings. "We get confirmation about a conspiracy and begin doubting that the family members are hiding something," says Kasbe.

The Thane Rural police's local crime branch, also probing the case, then pick up Sushma's brother Gautam Mohite and ask her to come to the police station with her mother Anita.

During interrogation, the trio confesses to killing Ravindra. "The accused claim Ravindra had kicked Anita after an argument. Gautam, angry with Ravindra for assaulting his mother, then took a bunch of heavy tiles and hit Ravindra on his head," says Kasbe.

The trio had then kept Ravindra's dead body in their bathroom for more than two days, but removed it when it began stinking. "They cut him into three pieces and packed him in three different gunny bags," adds Kasbe. The accused were arrested on Wednesday.
