What is the minimum value of a tree that may have taken decades to grow? According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s documented fee structure, the answer is Rs 10,000 — peanuts for huge-profit-making developers. And that has proven to be one of the biggest loopholes in the tree conservation process, especially at a time when almost the entire city is under construction.
