Everybody likes a re-cycle Last week, when this diarist came across a travel group offering a midnight cycling trip in the city, we thought it was an oddity. The first thing we wondered about was how many people they get.

We were surprised to know from the nearly 40 participants that they were racing against time from the time it was put up as the slots get filled up within hours. To add to that nearly a third of the participants were women.
We really came to know how much interest this healthier mode of transport now generates, when people in cars halted just to ask how they could take part in an event like this.
Almost at every turn, there were curious and interested onlookers who noted down details to try it the next time. Despite a couple of not-so-lucky attempts in the past to ignite his passion, we would love to see if public demand would ever lead to lanes for cyclists in Mumbai.

Goodies gone with the wind In an age of trimming the fat, no excess means success, streamlining, making it linear or whatever, the mantra seems to have caught up with the running feet of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon to be run on January 17, 2016.

The mega event, which has captured the hearts and soles (pun intended) of Mumbaikars, may be in cost cutting mode. All competitors in the half (21 km) and full (42 km) will not be given the mandatory goodie bag this time. The marathon enrollment form has a note in militant red which says so.
The goodie bag came with the marathon package, on the collect-your-bib (which is the running number) day. It had an assortment of lotions, creams, energy drink packets and some other products like spray to tackle running pain.
It came in a small plastic haversack. This time, though looks like runners will have to do with their running bibs and of course, adrenaline. Run on, Mumbai.
