Sign of the 'sity' Hold on to your dictionaries, it&rsquo;s Mumbai University. No, wait! We&rsquo;ve been spelling it wrong all these years, it seems, going by the signboards at either end of the Prabhodhankar Thackeray flyover on the Western Express Highway between Bandra and Vakola.

Perhaps the signboard painter thought, &ldquo;Hmm, &lsquo;city&rsquo; is spelt with a C. So why should the &lsquo;sity&rsquo; in &lsquo;university&rsquo; be spelt with an S?&rdquo; Actually we are not sure we even want to know the thought process behind this spelling decision but it seems clear that it was a decision and not a mistake, considering that the boards have been painted with this spelling twice, at both ends of the flyover!

Eat and run Where do you go when you are hungry enough to eat a horse? The Mahalaxmi racecourse of course. Except that you may not find too many horses over there, given that the Mumbai racing season has come to an end.
Yesterday, the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) held a fun run or mini marathon on its track, (since the four-legged species have finished it was time for the two-legged to show their horse power) and gave out medals and certificates for winners in different categories.

It was in a way, recognition of the fact that runners from all over Mumbai use the 2-km Mahalaxmi track for serious running and training. Top runners can be seen here especially as the Mumbai marathon draws closer every January.
While this event was a first for the club, the RWITC also had a special breakfast laid out on its lawns, with multigrain coleslaw sandwich, waffles, eggs, rava idli which could all be washed down with a sweet Malabar Cappuccino.
For those who missed that yesterday, one hears the RWITC also does a special breakfast every morning outside its Horsepower Gym on the premises.
The specialty here, is specially brewed tea and coffee! Meanwhile, a member says this outdoors breakfast may stop as the heat is getting too much. So, if you do wish to eat under the trees, the clip clop of horses and the chirping of birds, gallop as fast as a thoroughbred to Mahalaxmi.
Addressing the BKC issue It was more than a couple of decades ago that Mumbai got its second business hub after the marshy land was reclaimed and the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) took shape.

Now it teems with hundreds of corporate offices, to which lakhs of people travel every day. However, these people face a basic problem lack of signage which leads to a lot of confusion for those trying to find the right address.
Finally, it appears, the authorities are considering proper street signs that will give directions accurately, we hope. The planners working on this claim that just as in cities like New York or London where every street is marked with names of the buildings around, here too ideally every skyscraper and tower will be marked.
Well, we know who will rue this if it ever comes to pass the rickshawallahs who make an extra buck or several, from people stumbling around trying to find their way.
