Time to go fishing
When you pass through Mahim, the pervasive odour is a dead giveaway that you are going over the notorious creek. There is also, sometimes, the aroma (some would call it that, yes) of fish from the sea which is a stone’s throw - or a net’s throw - away.
And over the coming weekend, you have a chance to find out more about the fishiness and other history of Mahim, in the Koli Mahotsav which is to be held from February 13 to 15. There is, of course, a three-day food festival, with some 50 food stalls to be set up, as well as cultural programmes including the captivating tunes that the Koli or fisherfolk community are known for.
