India-US, is the right picture As March comes rushing at us, in a headlong frenzy of days and dates, the US Consulate General in Mumbai is marking International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, which takes place every March ion the US, through a photography contest.
The theme of this year’s contest is, “Make It Happen,” In a nutshell, we hear that participants are encouraged to take a photo that highlights Indian women’s achievements and recognizes the important role they play. The contest is open till March 15, 2015, to Indian nationals residing in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa.
Photos can be submitted via email (MumbaiPublicAffairs@gmail.com), or Twitter using the hashtag #MakeItHappenPics and the US Consulate General Mumbai Twitter handle @USAndMumbai. Yet we realise this is sketchy, not giving you the whole picture (pun intended), so for full contest details go to: www.facebook.com/mumbai.usconsulate/events.
What not to do a brief visual guide Looks like the Traffic Police have their task cut out for them. For all the awareness campaigns, crackdowns, etc, it is ultimately up to the road user, to practice safety.
<img title="It's more luck than skill on this rider’s side. Pic/Ganesh Pawar" src="http://images.mid-day.com/images/images/2015/feb/Bike-ride.jpg" alt="It's more luck than skill on this rider’s side. But what (and how much) can the police do when users like this person in the photograph, endanger themselves as well as their loved ones, not to mention other drivers and pedestrians? Even three on a bike is not safe.
Here we have six people including the rider, perched on an overloaded bike, negotiating the crowded roads of the city. We spotted this reckless rider at Byculla, near Gloria Church. And there are many similar cases elsewhere in the city as well.
