Dravid to deliver... another lecture Erstwhile India cricket captain Rahul Dravid will put his experience of delivering the Bradman Oration at the Australian capital of Canberra in 2011 to good use when he delivers the Dilip Sardesai Memorial Cricket Lecture on September 12 at a cricket venue in Mumbai.

Dravid is expected to speak on the art of batting, which should be like a stroll in the park if one was to go by his 24,000-plus international runs for India. Talking of batting, hopefully the Indian batsmen in England will provide Dravid an opportunity to trumpet their performances.
It must be stressed that Dravid helped the team in the build-up to the opening India vs England Test at Nottingham. Earlier speakers at this annual event were Sunil Gavaskar (2009), Bishan Singh Bedi (2010), Kapil Dev (2011), Sourav Ganguly (2012) and Ravi Shastri (2013). All yours now, Jammy!
Put a spin on it What with the water cuts imposed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which of course are in addition to the already erratic water supply that many city areas face, we have a tough time even washing our faces.
One of the measures to save water suggested by the BMC is to wash clothes in buckets instead of using a washing machine, as the latter option requires much more water. But with the monsoon having well and truly set in, hand-wrung clothes are going to take ages to dry.
In the city&rsquo;s space-starved flats, there simply isn&rsquo;t enough room to keep clothes drying for too long. Well, here&rsquo;s a solution for those who have washing machines use only the spin-dry function. After the clothes have been hand-washed, pop them into the machine and set it to &ldquo;spin&rdquo;, skipping the wash and rinse functions.
Then hang them to dry as usual. In fact, some machines come with a &ldquo;super-dry&rdquo; function that is supposed to bring clothes to as near dry as possible. Even lacking this function, the machine can still spin your clothes and help them dry faster. The city&rsquo;s water levels are cause for concern. So go on, give it a whirl.
Every dog has his auto With the clouds opening up over the city, its human denizens are not the only ones affected. Four-legged Mumbaikars are also hard done by, what with the rains making it more difficult to forage for food.

They also have to deal with &ldquo;residential&rdquo; issues. And, like humans, dogs have their own ways to find solutions like this little fellow who found a dry, warm seat in the back of an empty auto-rickshaw. Maybe he was hoping to be transported to a better place...
