Of Green Wars.... &ldquo;Mumbai is greener than Delhi! People keep saying Delhi has all these lovely green expanses, but I can see so many trees here,&rdquo; environmentalist and author of the book, &lsquo;Green Wars&rsquo;, Bahar Dutt, remarked during a chat yesterday, hours before the city leg of her book tour at Bombay Natural History Society&rsquo;s (BNHS) Hornbill House.

One was elated with this pleasantly surprising validation from one of India&rsquo;s most familiar television journalists. &ldquo;Your city has this lovely idea of a nature centre in the city, the Mahim Nature Park, which I think is a fabulous way to introduce kids to nature,&rdquo; she said, revealing her dream of wanting to start a similar space in Delhi.

&ldquo;We desperately need it; I was aghast while promoting my book in Delhi&rsquo;s schools, when I heard kids admit that their idea of an outdoor trail was going to the mall!&rdquo; she rued. From the challenges of creating awareness, to the lack of space of environment journalism to thrive, Dutt is aware of what lies ahead. Yet, the brimming positive vibe and the vision is inspirational. India could do with many more of her ilk. Truly, baagon mein Bahar hai.
And of Greenway... Recently, the leafy J J College of Architecture in SoBo played host to representatives from the firm, Abraham John Architects and well-known environmentalist Dr. Budhajirao R Mulik. It was the media launch of two initiatives called the &lsquo;Mumbai Greenway Project&rsquo; and &lsquo;Rainwater Harvesting on Railway Property Rooftops&rsquo;.

The Hall inside the College, was packed with students. When a bunch of them,got a little noisy during the presentation of the Mumbai Greenway Project, Alan Abraham, who was explaining the project through a slide show, stated candidly, &ldquo;Those at the back, you, if not interested, can please leave the hall. You'll can leave.&rdquo;
Meanwhile, there was thunderous applause from the youngsters when the programme anchor described Alan as alumnus of the college and said even Alan&rsquo;s father (Abraham John) sitting in the audience, was from the college having passed out in the 1960s. One is sure that some students would be dreaming of coming back and giving a presentation in their alma mater, when they become qualified architects.
