Hello, Russia! KAK Dela. This is how our Mumbai Mayor plans to talk to her counterpart in Russia when she visits that country later this year. Kak Dela means &ldquo;How are you&rdquo; in Russian, and Snehal Ambekar is planning to learn the basic hi-hello to emulate US President Barack Obama, who apparently greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi with &ldquo;Kem cho&rdquo; during his US visit.

Ambekar has not been able to take full control of happenings at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation as the Code of Conduct kept her away from regular business but not, apparently, away from the perks of becoming Mayor, as preparations for her first foreign trip have begun.
Ambekar also has an invitation to visit Germany for a conference in mid-November, as well as the Moscow one in mid-December. But she has been advised not to go on foreign jaunts back-to-back, so she will not be going to Germany.
Though sources say that avoiding too much criticism is the reason, Ambekar herself says that the Germany trip was cancelled as there was not enough time to prepare for the conference there.
Here comes the Joint Care Express With October being observed as World Arthritis Month, the Joint Care Express a state of the art medical van is going around in Mumbai. The clinic on wheels is travelling across the city and offering free educational camps for joint and knee problems. The initiative aims at creating awareness among the masses on the seriousness of Arthritis.

The surgeons associated with the initiative are Dr Niraj Vora, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Sunridges Speciality Hospital, Dr Santosh Shetty, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Thunga Hospital/ Surana Hospital and Research Centre, Dr V G Telang, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Jeevan Vikas Hospital, Dr Milind Patil, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Revival Bone and Joint Hospital, Thane and Dr Nilen Shah, Wockhardt Hospital.
At the free clinics on board the Joint Care Express, patients will be checked by doctors and taken through the steps that include post-operative care and rehabilitation. The van is a state-of-the-art clinic on wheels that has a lounge that can accommodate 10 patients at a time.
It has a state of the art, &lsquo;Augmented Reality App&rsquo; that enables the surgeon to show the patient a computer generated image of the view of the joints, thus providing a composite 3D view of how the knee joint looks, what causes arthritis and the steps of joint replacement surgery in a simplified visual form.
The Joint Care Express will be at Jeevan Vikas Hospital, Andheri from 9am to 2pm, and at Revival Hospital, Thane after 5pm tomorrow, October 22. On October 25, the van will be at Navi Mumbai&rsquo;s Wockhardt Hospital from 9am to 6pm. With arthritis affecting 15 per cent of India&rsquo;s population, visiting the Express for a checkup may be a good idea, we think.
On board for gentle fun Inside the parks in our city, it&rsquo;s a pretty common sight to notice elderly people standing in a circle laughing their breath out while facing the sky. What&rsquo;s also common is the camaraderie that these senior citizens build over time. More often than not, they bump into each other only in the park and end up being part of a activity-driven group.

And such solemn groups are flourishing in Mumbai as well as Navi Mumbai. The elderly members regularly go on trips and find ways to kill time in a leisurely manner. And gossiping is a favourite pastime. There will always be hue and cry about the callous attitude the city has towards senior citizens but there are instances which give us hope too.
For example, we recently noticed a makeshift club adjoining a park in Navi Mumbai where retired gentlemen gather to play carrom. Not a young face is to be noted there but nobody misses that either. And we&rsquo;d be remiss if we did not state that most of them are really good at the game, too.
