An offshoot of the current popularity of Premier Leagues in all games is that they tap and harness talent at the grassroots level. For example, kicking off today, eight teams will vie for top honours at the inaugural Borivali Premier Football League (BPFL) at Borivali Sports Foundation, on St Francis D&rsquo;Asissi Ground, Borivali (W).
The tournament is open only to clubs and players from Borivali and Dahisar, making it highly localised and focused. While it is always heartening to see local sport gaining traction, having a sports league is quite the badge of honour for certain areas.
We hope with the opening of such leagues, the condition of facilities at city grounds, including toilets, changing rooms, water, food and showers for players are looked into, to ensure players stick around, and cause a spike in numbers and interest. Well equipped is the way to go(al), Mumbai.
