Just the two of us

A couple is lost in conversation as the setting sun behind them paints the Powai Lake hues of orange.

Captain Smit Machchar, the pilot being hailed as a hero following the mid-air emergency aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073, will receive a grand tribute today. As part of an ongoing convention at NESCO in Goregaon, the city-based Junior Cube Association will piece together an intricate mosaic using Rubik cubes in varying patterns. Rupal Vorra, cube mentor, shared that the grand display will be followed by a second artwork tomorrow featuring Indian chess icons, and Erno Rubik, founder of the much-loved cubes. “It is a painstaking job, but it’s worth it when the bigger picture comes together,” she shared.

In the green of health

You would have heard of the adage: In the pink of health, but here we have a twist: In the green of health. The nursing and administrative staff of the Lilavati Hospital Bandra West, had showed up in green, the Navratri colour of Friday. They painted the health facility green with their attire and brought a smile to all. Green spells growth and harmony. The day was for Maa Katyayani, a fierce warrior form of the goddess. We like the mix of Maa Katyayani and professional care giving.

Kajol is done cajoling

Kajol Srinivasan. Pic Courtesy/Artiste

Comedian Kajol Srinivasan, whom you probably know better as @lolrakshak on X, is contemplating going “algorithm-friendly and ego-friendly.” During a conversation ahead of the debut of her new show Snarky, Srinivasan let us in on the jokes. “I have toured two shows in the past. One was buried by the algorithm for having the word ‘sex’ in it, and the other feminist show repelled men away,” she quipped. Third time might be the charm, we say. As for what’s in store, Srinivasan added, “There is a fair amount of upward-punching snark, suitably subtle because currently ice cream costs less than free speech.” Now that’s food for thought.

The bell tolls for all

The Juhu Circle traffic has foiled many plans by this diarist to arrive on time for shows at Prithvi Theatre. But we aren’t alone. Ahead of their annual celebration of Prithvi Theatre Festival in November, trustee Kunal Kapoor comforted us by sharing, “A few Sundays ago, the CEO of a prominent Swedish brand in Mumbai, accompanied a friend to see our Sunday morning jazz concerts. He is a fan of jazz music, and wished to catch the show. Unfortunately, he arrived much after our third bell. When I met him later, he shared how events in India often don’t start on time. I offered my consolation, but told him, ‘We always do.’ That’s our legacy. So, you’re not the first to regret it.” Time and Prithvi Theatre’s third bell wait for no one, it seems.
